Ummm well if we stop all together then the people alive now will all eventually die and then there will be no one. We need to keep producing some in order to continue and in order for new people, new ideas, new technology to be developed.

That's a very good question. Perhaps what is needed is a limit on the number of children produced. While it is true that if all procreation ceases then the human race will eventually die off, a limit to the numbers would drastically reduce the problems.

A species, any species, which ceases to procreate soon ceases to be. We are talking extinction here, the point at which a another species steps into to take over the open niche. Humanity as whole may well want to slow down its reproductive rate, but that is the question you asked.

Yes, the human race needs to continue propagation till the end of time. We should be masters of time and space, coz no one else is out there right now, as far as we know, so the universe (and beyond?) is ours for the taking.

I dont think that is a possibility. It is too strong of a drive to try and curb humanity from. I think that we are in the middle of prophetic fullfillment and the way the end will be played out was already foretold. So in the end, it is our own responsibility to choose not to have children or to have children. I have one child. I will not have more, not because I cant, but because I feel it would be irresponsible to have more the way the world is right now.

We don't need to stop procreating (as this would mean extinction of the species), but we do need to slow down the birth rate drastically. Overpopulation is the big global problem that no one is discussing.

Humans will be such an irrelevant blip by the time we create AI.
What are we doing multiplying right now? Well hopefully parents are being artful about it... but I don't think they are, and cycles of ignorance continue unabated.
