The general rule of thumb is 25 kg per person but it absolutely depends on the capability of the person, the distribution of the load and the conditions under which it is to be lifted - there is no prescribed maximum or minimum. In answer to your question the maximum amount 2 people can lift is that which THEY are comfortable and capable of lifting under the circumstances.
Check out the Manual Handling Regs in the 6 pack for more information.
Remember risk assessments 1st which will identify whether an alternative to a manual lift is required or any other precautions.
Hope that helps

The limit for suitcases carried by Airlines is 35 Kgs.
If one man lifts a bag, maybe the maximum weight lifted by two men is 70 Kgs.
Obviously two men could lift a lot more.
Limit is set low to allow a safe margin for all comers and for repetitive work.
Hope this helps.

i reckon it depends on
- access to the object
- how it's configured, shape, handles, etc
- how far they're going, what the terrain is like, do they have to climb
and so on. No simple answer I reckon but here in UK the Health & Safety Executive are big into manual handling safety and companies or individuals who balls it up could get trouble.
The other answer: it's in your Risk Assessment. If the RA says two people can shift it without other equipment, then they can. If not, they can't. The RA is written by you, so you decide.

Good question.
What field are you in? Are you muscular, average, or petite?
What may be heavy for one is light for another.
I work with people with developmental challenges, and there are times two people will lift a person that is about 150 lbs or more, and there are times where only one will give support.
When I crewed for hot air balloons, we had anywhere between 4 to 6 per basket depending on size (average basket weight was around 200 lbs. or more)
Most work places have requirements of "must be able to lift 50 lbs."
Sorry if I wasn't able to answer your question.

You need to check your work policy and/or OSHA. I work in the produce department of a grocery store and I am required to lift a maximum of 50 pounds.

The answer is to know your and your partners abilities. I work on an ambulance and we can lift around 200lbs each. total weight of 400lbs. There is no legal or medical magic number. Just know your abilities and when to stop.

If you cannot lift it, it's too heavy.
Call for more help or get a pallet truck/forklift.
Any grief from the boss is wrong.
