I know it is popular in the Sci-Fi world, but the movie Dark City needs to be more well known. Very good story, very origional. Many elements were seen in a movie that came out a year later called The Matrix, but Dark City is a better movie and better all around sleeper hit. It tanked enough at the box office for this to now be a sleeper hit. It is also hailed by Roger Ebert as one of the alltime "Great" movies and did a commentary track for the movie on the DVD and has given lectures about it's importance and quality film making. It was also his #1 movie of 1998. This movie needs to be seen by all movie goers who love a good story and origional concept. While there are similarities between Dark City and the Matrix in some aspects, this is not the hammed up cheesy action movie like the matrix. It is a real head scratcher as to why this never had more success. My guess is bad promotion by the movie company.

The Cube.It's a Science Fiction cult classic.It's about seven people that are involuntarily placed in a cube maze containing deadly traps.
It's R-rated for graphic violence.
Definitely Dark City.Fantastic movie!

He is right about Dark City... It is a good movie...
International or independent films like Run Lola Run, Cinema Paradiso and one of the best movies I've seen: City of God (brazil)
