The TV camera that took poor quality pictures of him taking the first step was mounted on the LM. He activated it himself from the top of the ladder before descending. After they were both on the surface they took the TV camera off the LM and put it on a tripod a few yards away. Then they both took high quality pictures of each other with film cameras while the TV camera kept taking video.

Of course he was. The videocamera and TV camera that recorded the first step for all posterity was on a remotely controlled boom on one of the landing struts, and was lowered into position before he even exited the LEM.
Why can't people get their heads around the concept that the U.S. ***DID***NOT*** fake the moon landings?
