I think there's the body of a human to make us feel secure and read the computer though the actual "brain" is the connection to the BIG BART computer.Hopefully the ones "manning" the computer aren't out on a bagel break when it passes through "the tube"!

There's a human driver for each train, but I believe there is a computer system that runs the system as a whole. I just hope and pray it all works is all, especially when I need to get to and from work! ;)

they have humans in the front, so humans play some role. How much I don't really know.
