Feed them Raw potatoes. Gives them their food and water source all in one.
You are going to have to find more suitable housing if you are seriously going to keep them. They are going to outgrow a jar really quickly. Alot of breeders(yes ppl really breed roaches) keep them in rubbermaid totes . There are things you can put around the rim of the totes to keep them from escaping and taking over your home, But you may want to check online or with an actual breeder for more info.

Why on earth would you want to keep cockroaches as pets?
Anyways, they will eat just about anything. If you want them to live, then keep them in a reptile aquarium, or something that will provide air. They may be very resilient to abuse, but they still need oxygen to live.

Cockroaches do eat about anything but try the plants around where you found them if they are wild but if you get in a store try a oranic cereal or something like oats.

Roaches are scavenging omnivores, they'll eat just about any organic matter they can find. They don't have a powerful bite, so they don't usually eat living animals.

They will eat anything. Anything you eat would be fine. Something rotten would be better. Something really nasty. Get some cat **** outta the litter box, that would be best.

This is funny to me...but if you put them on a rim of a soda can...that has a lil bit of soda spilled on it...they will drink it...and you can watch! How fun!!!

Yuk, well to each his own....I am sure they love table scraps, crumbs from bread, cookies, etc... as that seems to be what they go for on their own.
