You bet you can. I am a decendent of John Jacob Astor and Lady Nancy Astor. They were millionaires. John lost his life on the Titianic, his wife and child survived. He gave his seat up for another to live, even tho he could have bought his way off the ship. Impressive ancestor isn't he?? But I can do better than them. Many years ago I was made the daughter of the richest King alive. I am legally his and I am a joint heir to all he has. He is not one of the royal families. He is the only real royality there is. He has many titles too. Titles like KING of KINGS and LORD of LORDS to name a few. Some know Him has Lord, some as King, some as Jesus I can call Him ABBA or Father. I am not alone, thousands are heirs with me but we will all be rich beyond our wildest dreams just the same. If you read the Bible, He is just not my Father, King, Redemer, but He is also my Friend. He calls me His Friend. So can you be an American and related to a king? Sure you can. But not many kings chose you to be kin to them now do they? You don't have to be wealthy, you can be so poor that you have no shoes, or you can have dirty ragged clothes and still be His child. He loved me so much that he laid aside His Crown, royal robes and His home in Heaven and took a beating meant for me. He hung in torment so I would not have to. He gave all so I could be free. What a King, what a Friend. You can keep your earthly kings, I'll take my Heavenly ONE anyday. Will you?

Sure. Probably if you don't know about it, it's a very distant relation going back hundreds of years, though.
I know rather ordinary people who can trace their line back to John of Gaunt in the 14th Century and his descendants are on the throne of Britain today. In effect, they are cousins of Queen Elizabeth - many, many, many times removed.

My great aunt traced our family tree back to William the Conquerer, so yes it is possible, but very distant in most cases.

Sure. But that doesn't put them in line for a throne anywhere. In fact, there are dozens and dozens of them in America, who are acknowledged members of royal families, but the thrones their families once occupied no longer exist.
