I am trying to file for child support and was told by a woman(who seemed like she didn't want to help me) at the district court house that i need to get these papers:

Petition
TDO "?"
T/PRO "?"
information sheet

If you know the right documents that i need, please tell me. If i go through a child support agency it will take about a year or more to recieve support from the father. If i do it myself the process will take half the time.

I went through the Attorney General's office online for my state, filled out the paperwork and had a hearing in 3 months! The child support order went into effect the 1st of the next month. It went really fast. I think you can find some or all of those forms on the attorney general website for your state. The information sheet just gives all parties names (including children), addresses, date of birth, social security number, drivers license no., and employers for you and him. There are websites online where you can buy the forms really cheap. Try www.findlaw.com and see if they have it.

In California, you can go on line and get the papers you need, fill them out, and take them to the court house to have them filed. Type into your search engine, the state and county and you should get something like this--cohttp://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/
Take a deep breath and start looking. It is going to take some time to figure out what you need.
The people at the court, where you will go to file your paperwork are not lawyers and can not give you any information, BUT, if you have some of the paperwork ready to file, they may tell you what paperwork you are missing...ask for the number (such as FL100). If there is a law library in the court house, you should be able to get access to the paperwork there. Also ask if there is a "self help" center in your area, or if the court can provide a low cost lawyer, or one that can help you "pro bono" (free).
It's not easy doing it yourself, but it can be done, just have persistance and patience. Good luck

The petition is the one that basically says, "I'm taking this guy to court for this reason".

The TDO is your Temporary Domestic Order. It gives you and the father specific rules for conduct during the dissolution agreement period (divorce proceedings).

I'm really not sure what the T/PRO is.

And the information sheet is just all of the contact information for you.

What state are you in? Virginia has a Division of Child Support Enforcement. Your state probably does as well. You may be able to do all that online or at least print your forms.

You most likely need a motion & notice of motion for modification, monthly income& expenses and/or stipulation & order to amend judgement for support/maintenance/custody/placement. Hope this helps you in any way. If this doesn't work speak w/a lawyer that will take a pro bono case on your behalf.
