The heroine is a lowlander who has been betrothed to a highlander (the hero) since she was a girl. She is finally of age and he takes her as his wife. She doesn't like him, but comes to enjoy the company of his ailing father who is Laird of the clan. The old Laird dies and she wears their plaid over her heart for the funeral. The next day she only wears the plaid over her bum - in deference of her husband. He comments on this with a poem: "Alas, my lass thinks me crass, she denies me her heart yet offers her ..." she interupts. This is all that I remember, I read the book around 10 years ago (I was 13ish). It wasn't a Harlequin - it was one of the thicker ones. I thought it may have been a Julie Garwood, but I've read almost all of her books recently. Thank you for any REAL help.

That sounds extraordinarily familiar. I'm thinking it could be one of the Malory books by Johanna Lindsey maybe. It does sound Julie Garwood-ish.

Karen Marie Moning
Kinley MacGregor
Judith McNaught
Sherrilyn Kenyon

It could be one these authors. They have written some stories with heros as highlanders. I haven't read all of their books, so I can't say which title it is. Hope this helps though.

It could possibly be a Hannah Howell novel as well. She writes about brutishly handsome highlanders-I know it's not a Karen Marie Moning-I've just re-read all of her books

I think I read some of that book once in the library while I was waiting for my family, and it was just that part, too! Small world...lol I kind of skimmed it. I can't remember the name of it or the author. My apologies...

I'm thinking it could very well be Catherine Coulter or possibly even Shannon Drake (a.k.a Heather Graham).
