Showin my geek side here, but Senator Palpatine (the emperor) from the star wars saga.......he got the most powerful being alive to turn to the dark side and ruled the galaxy for 30 years or so. He manipulated pretty much EVERYONE, including the being who was believed to be the smartest Jedi, Yoda, in the galaxy for 3 decades! thats power.

Ariel from The Little Mermaid! She's immeasurably cool and only hypocrites and phonies hate her. They completely killed her character in The Little Mermaid 2, though.

I like Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element too.

But for really, really powerful and human, I'd have to go with the Tx from Terminator 3. She's played by Kristana Loken. Judging for the critics and previews of Kristana's latest movies, she has no talent as an actress. But she had it all in Terminator 3, and it was great!!!!

A male character would be Terminator himself. He turned the world upside down, didn't he??

Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption.

An unusual choice, but one that i believe demonstrates the tenacity of humans more than any other. The realistic depiction for me eclipses just about every super-hero enhanced blockbuster. I nearly typed Jack Nicholson in the Shining - which is probably the most compelling performance, but for me, Andy Dufresne is the epitomy of power within and a will to overcome.

Kirk Douglas in 'Spartacus' (1960).
He starred alongside of other greats such as Lawrence Olivier and Tony Curtis.

Probably one of the few gladiator films with such immense power, beautiful imagery, cinematography and conflicts.
Won 4 Oscars, and had 4 other wins and 8 nominations.

Must watch.

A couple of my favourite quotes:

From the narrator at the beginning:
In the last century before the birth of the new faith called Christianity, which was destined to overthrow the pagan tyranny of Rome and bring about a new society, the Roman Republic stood at the very center of the civilized world. "Of all things fairest," sang the poet...

Spartacus: And maybe there's no peace in this world, for us or for anyone else, I don't know. But I do know that, as long as we live, we must remain true to ourselves.

(Tony Curtis) Are you afraid to die, Spartacus?
No more than I was to be born.

Tony Montana, played by Al Pacino in "Scarface," the story of the Cuban Mariel boat lift that brought waves of Cuban refugees to the USA during the Carter administration.

Tony Montana came to the US in the boat lift, performed an assassination of a Fidel Castro crony (as a favor to get a green card and get out of the Cuban camp in Florida) and promptly rose to the top of the underworld in drug trade.

He bought many legitimate businesses and was absolutely in control of a vast empire. To get that much power, after coming from Cuba with nothing, is incredible.

(Note: I don't admire the guy, but he had power).

I stay in classic. I like Clint Eastwood. He's a guy's guy. Tough, got the right attitude when needed, and calm enough to disregard any bullets around. Charles Bronson was pretty tough too. And as someone said bout Tony Montana, he wasn't tough, he just had lots of attitude. The most powerful comic hero I consider the Hulk.

Derek Vinyard in American History X who was played by Edward Norton. The emotional highs and lows and trauma that he goes through in his transformation from neo-nazi extremist to reformed civilian trying to revert his brothers angry ways was very powerful. This was a good portrayal of youths in society grabbing onto an idea that takes over their life and isnt until they hit rock bottom that they can realize the need for change. Very powerful and scary because this can happen to anyone, expecially these days. Power doesnt have to be a "bad guy" thing. In this case it is powerful realistic portrayal of someone who's life is out of control and shows us the ups and downs of his life.

Charles Foster Kane - Citizen Kane
The main character's life is viewed as he emerges from early childhood to become a very rich and influential tycoon with emotional highs and lows in his businesses and personal life. Eventually toward the end of his life, the only thing that seems to be of any real value to him was a treasure from his childhood when everything was innocent and pure...."Rosebud".
