I assume you mean coaching someone participating in a spelling bee. Why can't a plumber also be a good speller? My father was a plumber, and he helped me study for the National Spelling Bee in 1979. I won the county level, beating out all the highschoolers and other kids, and I was in 5th grade. I don't see why it would be a problem.

If you mean that the plumber is a judge in the bee and their friend is a contestant, then "no" there's a conflict of interest.

Only if their friends are shorter than them. If their friend is taller, he must be overseen by an accountant.
