I will be off work for 6 to 8 weeks to recover. I would like to still have my vacation intact for a time that I can enjoy it.

Our company does not allow for sick days...so that is not an option for me.

It depends on your company's leave policy. When I was out for surgery I had to use my holiday, vacation and sick days before I could go on disability. My manager also suggested that I take FMLA. I declined. I needed income to pay the rent, utilities and such. But now after I go off disability, they don't have to hire me back, so make a wise decision, check with your company's HR, read your benefits package carefully. Not all companys give the same benefits and options vary considerably.

Best of Luck with your Surgery, take care.

You have to check your company's policy. Where I work, you take your sick time, then vacation time, if you don't have too many sick hours.

Also, check out FMLA, I think the fed says you can take sick time unpaid for up to 12 weeks per year. Once again, check your company policy.

NO. They can't force you to either.
