I am interested in obtaining a A+ certificate and eventually become MCSA certificated . I am curious to find out, in order for me to get these do the courses need to be taken or is it possible to purchase the study materials and then register to the correct tests that are needed?

Do you have any web sites that you would recommend that would help in addition to a book?

You do not need to take any courses, but you do have to take the certification tests.
I took an A+ test long time ago in Sacramento, CA. The test costs somewheres in the 100-200 dollar range so you want to make sure that you know your stuff before going in otherwise you're just throwing away money.

Yes, you can just buy study material, read on your own, and go take the tests. No courses required. I'd suggest the Sybex and ExamCram books for preparation, I have used these for many certifications (including A+ and Microsoft) and they've always been very good.

actually, you can just take a test. You can buy material, study it yourself and then sign up for a test.

Or you can be a genius and skip the part of buying material and go strait to the test

no, no courses need to be taken

All you need to do is pass the tests and you're done. The classes may help, but if you think you can get by without them, then go for it!
