Barbra Gordon
As Batgirl, she started on her own and wouldn't let Batman tell her she couldn't wear the costume. Years later after she was crippled by the Joker, she kept up the hero work as Oracle, and takes care of the heros computer & information needs.

Dr. Mary J. Ruwart, who is one of the leading lights of the Libertarian Party. She writes a regular column for the Advocates email newsletter (which, come to think of it, I haven't gotten in awhile) and has also written several books, one of which I have: Healing Our World in an Age of Aggression. I'm planning to vote for her for president if the Democrats put up a female. Or what passes for a female.

Elektra and Buffy.

Both came back from the dead. Both kick major butt.
Buffy because she's the ultimate impowering female whilst still being girly and funny.
Elektra because she was only in a few comic books of Daredevil's yet she captured the hearts and loins of many comic-fans and eventually got a movie and her own comic w/o Daredevil. Plus Jenny Garner did all her own stunts in that movie.

If she's a female, she's not a hero. She's a heroine. To answer your question: Sigourney Weaver because of the Alien movies.
