No. A show on the Discovery Channel called "Mythbusters" proved this a myth on one of their shows. They were able to affect a credit card by using an extremely powerful magnet that you don't come across everyday, but they couldn't erase it using a cell phone or a money clip.

Yes, they say you are not to get your credit cards close to anything magnetic for that reason. Also, certain types of leather can damage them, too. I think they told me eel skin or snake skin wallets...which I don't have but the card company once was trying to figure out why my card was malfunctioning.

Nope. Staple Remover said what I was going to say. They even put a credit card in a tank with a live electric eel, and the card didn't change.
