I love To Kill A Mockingbird! It's an excellent tale of a young girl who's sees her father in modern society, (well, during the depression), but he never changes. It's a perfect tale!
But my favorite child's book is Harold and the Purple Crayon. All of those others are great as well! Like in the series! I love the adventures his crayon brings with him! ;)

When I was a kid, I loved The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews. As an adult, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy was good, too.

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Truly amazing, and there's a book for all different book lovers. Modern, in the past, full of action, a little less action, religious, no religion mentioned, etc.
