Jason B- building a nuclear plant on your property would not be "respecting the rights of others", unless you have a piece of property big enough where the effects would never reach them

Part of the Preamble to the Constitution is "promote the general welfare", maybe we just interpret that differently. I believe we should help people (promote) when they need it, not give them a lifelong entitlement.

By closed borders, I didn't mean no one in or out. I meant only those entering legally may do so.

Thanks, bungi. I agree. While I will probably never understand your continued support of Bush, libs and cons are closer than most people think. I think everyone should write out a list, like I've done here, and next election, draw 2 columns and put a checkmark next to each item under the candidate that support each issue. Vote for the one with the most checks. Simple as that. Never happen though...

Damn man, you are almost right on target with me. You have to prioritize what is most important to you. Unlike the lamo who brought up the power plant, look at real everyday situations. I found myself closest to Libertarian, since personal freedoms and a small central government is most important to me. Since you balance your budget you are definitely NOT GOP or DNC. I think you need to define in you own views what "general welfare" entails. I believe the gov should provide a safety net far too many have become addicted and dependent on the "free" money. Plus I dislike the fact that it costs the feds $12 to deliver $1 in welfare. So, I rationalize MY social welfare as only non-ablebodied people can get it for more than one year at a time. If you can not get a job then you have a choice to enter the military or civil service.

Good luck...and thank you for all your good posts

Then you are right with me or I with you

i think you might think you are a libertarian

your "summary" contrasts greatly with the views you espouse above though

you believe in protecting the environment, but you believe people should be able to do what they want with their own property, well, these two things are diametrically opposed, what if a guy wants to build a nuclear plant in his yard?

you believe in individual rights but closed borders, why shouldnt free law abiding people be able to cross borders?

you believe the american government has a responsiblity to take care of her own people, but you believe in the constitutition and declaration of independence, both of these documents espouse the point that people need to take care of THEMSELVES, and the constitution limits the governments power to about 4-5 things none of which involve taking care of anyone

I think your an Independent like me. Except I like Bush. But I think you and I do go toward the right. I was a Democrat for many years, but my morals got in the way. I wish we didn't have to pick a party. I like Joe Lieberman for his honesty.

Libertarian with a close second on republican.
How did you ever get to be a Democrat? They haven't believed in any of those things in decades.

You sound like an Independent who leans somewhat right, like myself.

You are mostly Libertarian, definitely conservative. That means you have a mind of your own and aren't afraid to use it.

You're a democrat, however, could be swayed by a republican.
