first you need to know what the E sounds like, then on the 5 fret of E hold it down and strum the E string and the next one down at the same time. if it sounds like theres to much vibration its out of tune so either thighten the string or loosen it depending on how it shound either to sharp or to low. do thid until you get to the third sting from last there you will hold down the string on the 4 fret and so the same as before.. it takes alot more practice remembering what the E sounds like so find a song that used that sting alot and practice to hear it then tro to tune it by ear.. good luck

You have to know that the strings are tuned to E-A-D-G-B-E, and you have to know that to tune everything a half step down , every string would be a half pitch down. SOmeone else will come in here with the exact notes, but i'm sure that will leave you just as in the dark. I've been doing this so long , it's just auto-pilot for me, so my official answer is : Experience!

to tune down a half step :

if you're already in tune (e a d g b e)

match 6th fret low E to open A.

your low E is now Eb.

tune the other 5 strings as usual (octaves/ harmonics/unison/etc)

that said, digital tuners are so cheap nowadays.. get one, you chisler.

Its hard to get the first e string, use a piano.
From there, 5th fret on E is open A
5th fret on A is open D
5th fret on D is open G
4th fret on G is open B
5th fred on B is open e

theres an online tuner :

If you hold string as follows:

X
I I I I I I
I I I I I I
I X I I I I

to tune E, hold down A string at the third fret. They should sound the same.
