According to the Theatrical Play: Confucius Dream, I watched a couple of years in Qifu, the city where the School of Confucius is, there were wars between the two!
I suppose that such happen either in Europe, when Mongols and other Chinese attacked West, from 12 to 6 centuries ago, after all, the Roman Empire collapsed by the Turks, who are Mongols and Mongols are a Chinese race!
Also, in the early Roman times, when the Romans attacked East, they definitely fought against regions of Chinese!

The argument could be made that the origin of the 'northern" tribes and Gauls that defeated Rome is not clearly understood. I believe its conceiveable (but not probably) to think that some of the Germanic tribes (Goths) may have actually been from eastern europe and as far east as Mongolia as they were highly nomadic Although the Mongols are ethnically different then the Chinesse they did rule parts of China in the late 13th century
