Here's the link. Essentially, the proposition taxes the rich (an individual making $400,000 and a couple making $800,000) and use it to fund public education for kids in pre-school.

Hmm... used to live in CA but don't follow their politics anymore. Care to share what Prop 82 was? I can try to speculate.

I agree with Hexador...
California has this obsession with taxing the rich. Why would you want to punish those who figured out how they can get the system to work for them? They are the ones who put their necks out on the line to start businesses or invest in struggling ones and it paid off. Now you expect their success to pay for your child's PREschool? If it's that vitally important to you, then you will find a way to get your child to preschool.
Keep on taxing the rich and see how long your jobs will stay. Nevada is much more awesome at understanding how capitalism is supposed to work.
One day California will realize that the Robin Hood method - steal from the rich (more taxes) to give to the poor (welfare and other freebies such as this one) - does not work in a capitalist society.

Generally speaking, it seems that many people felt that the money for preschool education was too excessive and that it could be better spent on K-12 programs instead. Many people see that K-12 schools are underfunded as it is and they feared a beauracracy would develop with massive expenditure on preschool. The First 5 Commission is already funding a large amount for services to preschoolers whereas K-12 has no such funding. Another group simply sees it as "just another tax" and opposed it on that basis.

with martin sheen, boxer, and feinstein supporting prop 82 it's just another liberal tax on the rich, why should the rich pay for you child's pre-school, if you can't afford it that's to bad, and I am poor, but I don't think it's right to expect the rich to pay for everything. I voted no.
