I heard that when it's refueling, whatever was settled on the bottom gets shaken up and can end up in your gas tank. Any truth to that?

yes the sediment does get aroused inside the tanks, but there is a filter at the pumps. The stations are supposed to replace these filters on a regular basis. i would worry more about water content in the tanks.

There is anecdotal evidence that sediment can be stirred up ... however, if it is a high enough volume station, the risk should be minimal.
