Both beautiful countries with great things to offer. If you are a typical Californian American girl expect to get quite a bit of attention from locals as you stand out more from the med' look, but as long as you abide by the rules of travelling alone example. arranging to make contact with home at certain times and days, so that your presence is accounted for, stick to publicly marked routes, don't deviate off road, if you are likely to be gone all day, let someone in your hostel/hotel/B&B where you are going, and just use your savvy, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Now you are speaking with the right person... ;)
(i love these two countries )
U can be safe travelling alone to both countries, i just have some doubts about some parts of Turkey.
Except from the European places that you can visit without any problems [lets say: Istanbul of course, Ionian seaside, north seaside, Ankara, Kappadokya (don't miss it) and other touristic destinations], have in mind that the east and north-east part (i don't know if you are planning to visit these places) are not so "European", and usually the natives aren't used to tourists -maybe this will not make you feel very comfortable-.
In the other hand, be sure that you will meet the history of Mesopotamia, Early Christianity...
The only thing i must warn you is to be care-full with your clothing-dressing if you really want no one to disturb you (general rule for every Muslim country).

About Greece... You really don't have to worry about anything. A great part of its economy is based on tourism for many years.. Just enjoy it.. (i suppose you know about the beauty and the history of this country -no need to say anything more)
Of course it would be the best idea to consult a good travelling guide ("lonely planet", "rough guide", whatever) that will inform you for everything you have to know..
Don't doubt at all, go for it

The Greeks are used to blonde tall women; however, they do have a tendency to shout compliments (not always politely expressed). It is safe to travel on your own, providing you do not provoke negative attention. It's pretty much straightforward: Eg wearing shorts away from the beach is a bit unaccaptable, mini skirts might also attract looks. It is better to avoid dark places and walk alone at night. Basic stuff you should be on the look out anyway.
The Turks are, in general, deprived from blonde, white women, so you might be considered as an... exotic beauty. This will bring attention to you, whether you like it or not. They can be rather indiscreet -you will feel as if they are undressing you with their eyes! I consider them to be all words.. however, you still need to be careful and not provoke. I'd say, DON'T PUSH YOUR LUCK. After all, it is a muslim country, and exposure of parts of human anatomy (including face!!!!!) is prohibited in other muslim countries.

Be very careful. Those are still very places that i wouldn't go. The U.S. tells us to be careful in those two countries. Maybe Turkey for terrorits and the country isn't that friendly with us. Greece I believe could be ok but terroirts are rampant. I know someone says if you are afraid it can hurt you but being weary is good. Being alone? Well at this point in my life I wouldn't be alone in no country. Its easier to be missed.

Well errrm, how can I put this politely ... The men in Turkey stare (they stare a lot) and it can make you uncomfortable because they are so obvious with it.
I don't know if you are saying that you're more likely to be raped in these countries, I think that risk is pretty much anywhere in the world but they will ogle you big time!
You have been warned ...

My sis visited Istanbul (Turkey) in April, this year with her hubby. She was praising a lot about the city. Its a safe city. She got some cool picture of famous "Blue Mosque" (considered as one of the wonders of the world). If you wanna see pics of Blue mosque, send me your email id, I can forward them. Best time to visit the city is in October to November, thats what I heard. You know one strange thing about the city....half of Istanbul is in Europe & other half is in Asia. Strange !! isnt it ?
