I used to run a facepainting booth at the football games in my high school. We used good ol' fashioned way-cheap art class tempra paint. It sort of chips if you make a lot of faces, but the risk with acrylic and some of the things that have been suggested is that some of those have toxic ingredients. Since tempra paint is made to withstand the goofiest paint-eating 6 year old, it's pretty safe.

Well..if you want to make it so they can never ever take it off...use something like oil based paint!

But I assume that you want a typical facepaint...
There are products that are actual facepaints that are safe for all ages. I actually have these watercolor crayons that aren't typically used for face paint but they work really well and wash off pretty easy.

AJ's got it right...it's called "Greasepaint" and it's specially formulated to be safe (hypoallergenic) for your skin...try your local arts/crafts/costume stores.

EDIT: While some people were trying to be funny, don't under any circumstances apply acrylic or latex paint to your face! You could be allergic and not even know it. It's better to be safe than sorry.

crayola actually makes a paint for poster boards that works really well but comes right off when washed with soap and water

Go to Home Depot and grab a can of outdoor acrylic. It washes out, but only from the surface. This way, the sweat from beneath doesn't cause it to run.

Greasepaint. It can be removed with face cream or baby oil and will not stain clothes. You should be able to get this at costume/majic stores.

Good luck!
