First off: you'll need a VCR/DVD RECORDER combo!

The last time, I went "price hunting", for a VCR/DVD RECORDER combo, they ranged between $200.00 to $400.00 -- BUT, they're worth it!

Your best places, for looking for a VCR/DVD RECORDER combo, would be "Circuit City", "Best Buy", "CostCo Wholesale" (if you have one, near you!)

{There are other places, that you can buy a VCR/DVD RECORDER combo -- I just can't remember them, at the moment}

Start with these places, FIRST! They will, more than likely, have a VCR/DVD RECORDER combo, that'll suit you just fine!

{When you go to purchase your VCR/DVD RECORDER combo, your "best bet" would be a unit that's "not cumbersome!" -- until you're ready, for an "advanced version!"}

{The other thing, that you'll have to consider, is "what kind of DVD disc format do I want?
Do I want "DVD+R/RW", or do I want "DVD-R/RW"?"}

{With "DVD+/-R", you can record on them, ONLY ONCE!}
{With "DVD+/-RW", you can Record... Erase... and Record, on them, AGAIN-and-AGAIN!}

{I won't go into the "dry", technobabble, but -- each format: DVD+R; DVD-R; DVD+RW; and DVD-RW, have unique recording features, apart from each other!}

{Good Luck... and, "May the 'Price' be with you!"}

I agree with Crabby Lion gave you great advice, However, I just saw an ad for a DVD Recorder at Target for under $90.00. They really have come down in price in recent months. Check it out.
The discs aren't too cheap, and copying them to DVD will be very time consuming, as it's all done in real viewing time.
But we know what happens to tape after a while. So it could be worth it too you.
