ok guy marring dog comment makes me have to respond. 2 conscenting adults a a little bit different from marring a dog. and homosexual marriage being a joke??? like marriage is not a joke now??? str8 people have been messing up marriage sence the begining of time. over half of the "oh so great" heterosexual marriages end in divorce so i think heterosexuals have already made it a bit of a joke. one last comment everyone says homosexuals are gross well we are not the ones with the dirty minds bringing up sex with animals. maybe your subconscious is trying to tell you that you like your dog???

I'm kind of up in the air on it.... I'm not gay by the way. I also don't believe in God.

On one hand, gay couples would like to be recognized by the government as a couple so they can enjoy the same benefits of heterosexual couples (tax breaks, less car insurance, etc).

That's where the problem starts...

The government only recognizes MARRIED couples. If you want to get married, you probably believe in the Church (your marriage should mean nothing if you get married in the name of God but you don't actually believe in him).

If you believe in the church and its rules, then you know that God doesn't like it when two dudes want to get married. If gays know this, then why would they want to go against the will of God and marry another man?

The problem is the government forming laws based on religion. Most of the US has Christian beliefs, so they are against gay marraige. Yet most people in the US also agree that people are entitled to equal rights and benefits, regardless of sexual orientation.

So the government needs to open up and accept gay couples as they are. Forcing them to get married to be recognized as a couple is forcing gays to find loop holes in Church rules, so they can try and justify their right to be married in order to be recognized by the government...

Religion says no to being gay, but the government/people say yes to giving gays equal rights.

You can't give everyone equal rights if they don't believe in the God that the US makes its laws by.

I guess I'm against it. I have a few gay friends, and they are very nice. Gays have been around since human beings, and I feel I'm pretty tolerant, but I have a problem with some of the legal issues. In particular, I am troubled by two gay persons raising a child. I don't dispute that they could love a child and treat it well. I just wonder if the child will be learning a lifestyle which (s)he would not otherwise pursue. Y'know, nature vs. nurture.

I'm pretty much live and let live, but I can see where businesses and governments might not want to pay survivor benefits to a surviving gay spouse.

I realize this is far-fetched, but if society recognizes gay marriages from a legal standpoint, then theoretically what is to prevent inter-species marriages? A person might claim to love their cat more than any possible human. If you let same sex marriages in, what are you opening the door to? There's always the "Law of Unintended Consequences."

Currently, it is politically expedient to pander to a cerrtain segment of society who would like to poke their morality down everyone's throat. If I am not mistaken, that's what drove people away from England to the New World, y'know, religious freedom. It ignores the fact that the Bible was written by men, not God herself.

It's too deviant froom the norm. So I say no. But if Mass. or Calif. votes to allow it, I will not start bombing churches.

First of all to the moron who talked about marrying a dog.....are you actually comparing a human being to a dog??? Or are you the one who actually wants to marry the dog?

I think marriage is for 2 people who love each other and want to make a lifelong commitment! Everybody should have that right!! Why are all these stupid people against it so much? They wouldn't be hurting you, they aren't forcing you to have a same sex marriage! So what business is it of yours?? NONE!!!!!

i am gay. always have been, but i am against gay marriage right now. if the government suddenly said.....yeah, okay, you can get married if you wanna... many, many, many gay couples would rush out and be married, not just because they finally could, but to say...hey, look at me.....I'm queer, I'm here, and now I'm married.....how you like them apples? then, in a few months, the divorce rate among gay couples would go crazy....proving so many people right.
i think it should be a right, yes, but, let's do it slowly, do it correctly, and maybe set a few rules about living together for a certain amount of time, prove to yourselves (the couple) that this is really what you want, and then, don those rings and be proud....enjoy your 50th anniversaries together, let freedom ring and enjoy life free from hatred and bigotry.....we really are getting there.

There is nothing wrong with it. As long as they have to pay to same fees to get married and divorced it doest matter to me. Half of these idiots think the bible dictates sexual preference or our constitution should define it. If we can define marriage in the constitution than we can remove the right to bear arms. Americans sure cant go long with out discriminating against some group of people.

It is true, most are against it. The problem is, gays are never at rest; they have no inner peace, nor peace of mind. They want war. Others, are not this disturbed. Others are at rest. They don't want to fight, they want to enjoy their lives.

There are astronomical numbers of people who are not only against this gay marriage fiasco but are very disturbed by it. When this group gets riled up enough, you will see a quick end to the whole gay marriage thing and the whole gay movement thing.

For it. I think that love is a precious gift for who ever may have it, gay or straight.

And two gay people marrying is nothing like a person marrying a dog, two people have to consent to being married, a dog can't speak at all.

How does it harm anybody in any conceivable way? To those people who have been told they must oppose it.....how does it affect you in ANY way? Do you hate just for hate's sake, or do you get points for every time you spout the Mantra of Intolerance? (Yahoo! Answers for real yahoos?)

I am a single heterosexual male. If i was to get married, i would marry a woman. But whose business is that but mine and the woman i'd marry? No one's.

So whose business is it if a same-sex couple want to get married? THEIR OWN, AND NO ONE ELSE'S!

So in response, i say this : mind your own business, and let other people get on with theirs.

Against. My neighbor loves his dog. Should he be allowed to marry her? Love is love, right? Gay marriage would turn marriage into a big joke?
