My grandmother has an old computer with windows 98 on it. It doesn't have a port for an ethernet cable. On her main computer she has a high speed internet connection. She wants the high speed internet on the old computer also. Is there anything she can buy like an adapter or something that can enable her to have the internet on it?

An ethernet card would be cheap to buy and easy to install, no problem.

But consider, that Microsoft offers no support anymore for Windows98 - and that means that no have no chance against any kind of virus, worm or whatsoever that will enter your computer via the high speed connection.

yes, all she needs is an Ethernet card, or an Ethernet adapter. You can get one online or at your local computer store. The Internet card needs to be installed inside the computer, so you need to be comfortable with opening it up and things like that, but its not too difficult to do. The only obstical is if the computer doesn't have a slot available for the card. Then you need to either free up one of the slots by removing something else, (such as a memory card), or go for an external adapter. The problem with the external adapters though, is that most of them connect through a usb slot, which you may not have on your old computer. So, I guess your answer lies in that. If your old computer has an available slot, or a usb port, you will have no problem.
The guys at your local Best Buy or Comp USA , or even radio shack, should be able to help you.

Good luck.

Yes. You just need to install a NIC (network interface card) which can be done very cheap. If you don't want to open the computer you can even get a USB one (if the computer has a USB port). The internet experience should be a lot faster but the computer will still be slow. Try and boost the computer's RAM to help with that. It's a fairly cheap thing to do these days.

Good luck.

I'm sure she can. My aunt has an old computer with 98 on it and she has it. The cable company supplied an adaptor box thing, I believe. Wish I could be of more help.
