I live in the south and I have been very discriminated against because of my race. I have been jumped for driving through a black neighborhood delivering furniture and robbed. I have been passed over for a job because they needed a "minority" to meet some quota. A black person can drive through my neighborhood with no problems. If I drive through theirs I get run out. When you watch BET comic view, or pretty much any black comedian, they are always joking on whites and sterotyping us. If a white comedian said those things he would be protested and all over the news. The black panthers are considered people that are "proud of their race" and the KK klan are known as racist when their is no difference. I could go on with other examples. This is a serious Q...please leave the emotions out of your answer and lets talk logicaly.

Boom...years of oppresion? You just said that me getting robbed was blacks mad at me because of my race since they don't know me (Racism). An yet you wonder why an old woman would grip her purse when she sees you. Stop with the justified robbing because of years of oppresion and they may stop gripping their purse when they see you. And gripping a purse is alot better than getting robbed or killed!

Also, that argument is tired. Everyone says that and yet I never see it.

Screen Queen..yes..because after the minority was fired for cursing in front of a customer I DID get hired and after I got in good with the boss she told me that they had to replace a minority with another.

Also, I know that black people havn't been harrassed in my neighborhood because I live there (Rremember I live in the country)...not alot going on so when something does you hear about it. EVERY time I would drive thru that neighborhood I would get chased out..any white person does unless they know you are there to buy drugs...seriously...

I once applied for a job at a store that was all black except for 1 girl. When I applied I could tell I wasn;t going to get it. I didnt. I filled another app out with the exact same info except checked I was black, they called me for an interview! I wish others here would give exact cases like I am.

Moon pixed...Name 1 black person that has been lynched in the last 20 years? Name 1. And just because a person that is white kills a person that is black doesn't mean it's a "hate crime". So me getting con't mugged called a cracker...honkey etc is not as bad a not getting into a club? You have GOT to be just a niave little kid!

What kind of job told you you didn't get the job so that they could fill a quota? Is that an assumption you made because you didn't get it? I work in HR and you would have a solid case if you could prove that to be true. Quotas don't really work that way. It is illegal to set any color or sex quota for a business. If a company is clearly not hiring any minorities the gov't might tell them that they have to make the attempt to recruit minorities, but no company has any set goal of hiring this many black people this year, and that may Hispanics next year, that's not how things work. There are many reasons why you may not have gotten that job, some relevant to the position, and some irrelevant.

I'm sorry you got mugged, but is it fair to say you are only privy to the things that happen to you and the people you know? Is it possible that there are whites that drive through the black neighborhood all the time without being bothered? And is it also possible that blacks have come into your neighborhood and been harassed or worse? I think there are prejudices all around, people of all races have problems from time to time.

Brian, I'm sorry you've had these negative experiences. However,I want to make it perfectly clear from the get go that I am white. Blacks today are still discriminated against more than whites. That's why there is Affirmative Action. Most corporations and businesses are controled and owned by whites, who only want to hire whites. In a mixed neighborhood, or county, this leaves alot of minority families in dire straights. So the government stepped in and said, if 25% of a community is minority, then 25% of minorities should make up the workforce. It's only fair. But I do believe those minorities should be qualified for the position and not just put a minority in, that doesn't know their *** from a hole in the ground. That doesn't help anybody in the long run. The Panthers are willing to deal with whites, all they want is equality. The KKK however will not do the same. I've also heard white comedians stereotyping blacks in jest, as they do us. So what! It's meant to be funny, not derrogatory.. We as a society have got to stop this culture obcession we have and start living like Americans. United and Free.

It's true that there is a lot of reverse racism, but I live in the Northeast and we get aling oretty well up here. I feel that the brunt of the discrimination has shifted to Mexicans, Puerto Ricans and other Latinos more than blacks or whites. I lived in Philadelphia and couldn't find a job because all the managers and employees were black and wouldn't hire me. I have also lived in rural areas with less than 1% black and they are very against blacks there, so I've seen it all and I think it's pretty well-balanced. It just depends on the neighborhood.

I must say though, society is really crazy about African Americans the past decade. Why bother having BET when MTV is the same thing anymore? Basically all rap, hip-hop and r&b.

It is unfortunate that many people focus on slavery as the ONLY problems experienced by African descent people. There is also persecution, murders, castrations, humiliation. It was horrendous before but during the 60's the maltreatment became news as laws were being passed that included the African Americans which gave them more power in the world dominated by white men. That's just the fact. Grown African American men were called boys. It didn't matter if he was 50 years old and a 14 year old white youngster called him boy. That kind of history is the problem in addition to the horrors of slavery. This is years and years of abuse experienced by generations and if changes hadn't been made there would still be the same problems.

if you r gettin jumped that is years of oppression biting you in the a$$. its not true that black ppl are equals in subarbun settings. whenever i walk in a suburban are i get stared at old women are grabbing their purses and their kids so there is racism still

If you are talking about the black panther party, you should know that they were non violent and tried to get equal rights in schools and jobs. The KKK were a bunch of tight a$$ pricks who hated losing their jobs to better workers. Kinda like Hitler who started the Nazi party when he was rejected from art school while a bunch of jews were admitted.

You need 2 start talking logically instead of hatin on a group of ppl when only a few are trouble makers. That is racism in its original form. I aint baggin on the whiteys that be thuggin so y you baggin on the brothers? why does there have to be a double standard? I've also had cases where i was not even given an applcation and the next white guy got a job? you callin that fiar? BLACK PPL GET MUGGED EVERY SINGLE DAY IN ROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS AND I DONT SEE WHY WE HAVE TO BEND OVER BACKWARDS FOR A WHITE GUY WHO GETS ROBBED.

At about this point I think there's generally too much skin gaming going on all around. It isn't the skin. Condition of heart and mind. Would you do something to hurt a friend? Of course not. The world is never going to be an idyllic place. It will continue to be filled, run, administrated, and abused, by myriads of evil people.

There are multitudes of inequities all around. 'Racists' are native to every race, and none too clever a dodge. It's political leverage right about now. The individual. This is what is important. Not in a selfish perception. Don't be swayed. You'll know what to do. Honorably.

How do you know a black person can drive thru your neighborhood with no problems? Are you saying everytime you drive thru a predominately black neighborhood you get ran out? Sorry I don't believe it. As far as BET comic view the comedians (black, white, hispanic etc.) joke about all races. And don't even compare the black panther party with the KKK, you're wasting your time.

Because you were "passed over" for one job and got mugged in a "black neighborhood" that means whites are discriminated against?
Thats not much of an arguement for your case.
Until you are lynched becuase of the color of your skin or denied access to a country club, golf course, school, or club because of your race, it seems you don't have much to complain about.
But, I'm sure you will anyway.
I have spent a lot of time in "black neighborhoods" and have never had a bad experience, even though I am white.
Perhaps it's your attitude, not your skin color.

As an African American I can honestly see how you could feel the way that you do however I must say that African Americans are still being discriminated against in many ways that white people will never understand because they do not have to acknowledge it. the black panthers have never terrorized white people. the KKK raped, murdered and bombed the homes and churches of African Americans therefore your comparison is irrational. i believe in reparations so that we do not need a quota system or affirmative action but America must help in the repair of African American who have been systematically kept from achieving the American dream and I think that would cure alot of the racism in America.

Nobody should be given preferential treatment because of race or gender period. It is blatantly racist and wrong. Racism goes both ways and black people who treat white people this way are racist and wrong and should be ashamed. Martin Luther King preached that a man should be judged on the content of his character, not the color of his skin. The black Panthers are no different than the KKK or Nazi skinheads as they preach hate which I would say is evil and wrong.
