If you know when and where he died, you should be able to get a copy of his obituary from the paper in that town.
You can also get a copy of his death certificate in the county he died in.

if googling the guy turns up nothing, it may be buried in an old newspaper somewhere, because it won't show up on google if the paper that doesn't have archived internet articles for 16 years ago...
and the internet wasn't so popular for the public sixteen years ago....
I would suggest asking your relatives (if you can) for ANY leads...
public records would also have his death certificate, and i think any arrests or serious things would be there as well. you can find these in the city hall of the place where he died or was born i think.
good luck, peace out!

Unless your father was a celebrity or prominant in his community there will be little information written about him anywhere. Your best bet for finding information is to speak to members of his family if you can locate them. As his daughter you are entitled to a copy of his birth and death certificates but this will only provide a little information. You would be surprised how often death certificates simply list the death as "heart failure.". Everyone ultimately dies of heart failure.

Answer will depend on the locality where your father lived and died. If it is country and region well developed in IT, Google or any other search engine could be tool for you. Otherwise, you might need to explore local area os local government for it.

Many times your local library will have articles from the past on microfiche that you can look up and copy. You may also contact the local paper to see if they have a way to pull archived articles.
