Hard rubber ball gags aren't good -they hurt the jaw if on for very long. Although there are some softer, squishy foam rubber balls you can get online.
I like scarves or bandannas the best, just make sure you don't put them so far in they could be a choking hazard and never leaved a gagged person unattended.

Depending on the mouth, anything that'll fit on a sixteen wheeler. Either that or copiously weep at the designated mouth and tell them you need to have one fill a monologue spot in front of seven or eight hundred people.
