Sweetheart, you can buy a great computer for that at TigerDirect.
There good ones are assembled by SysteMax (don't get the E-machines...lots of problems) and you can have them customized with more memory or a dual screen graphics card if you want.
Here is a (long) list of Systemax computers for sale at TigerDirect...

The number one thing you should do is don't buy an E-Machines computer they are nothing but trouble, for some reason they will usually work ok until you start adding software or games. I have owned 2 IBM's and they worked fine for several years with no problems but now I own an HP Pavilion Model 742 and absolutely love it. But I did max the memory up to I Giga Byte, it does anything I want to do, I've used it to record music, burn music and video cd's and download huge files off the net, my grandson plays games on it and I've never had a problem for the 3 plus years I've owned it. I highly recommend it.

Desktop or Laptop. Which processor do you prefer, how much memory do you want. What are you going to do with it. I'll give you some general guidlines and I'll start with laptops since that's easier, any of the laptops on this page should suit you just fine, check out user reviews before you buy, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&N=2030260032+1039319756+1292318470&Subcategory=32&description=&srchInDesc=&minPrice=&maxPrice=

Now desktops... well, I don't like Dell, I don't like any of the manufacturers to tell the truth but I'll assume you don't have the skill to build one yourself. Whenever you buy a desktop from a store or off the shelf system the first thing you should do is get yourself a better video card that what it came with, even if it came with a dedicated card, I'd rip it out and replace it because most of the time the included ones are weak and completely useless (for gaming).

Either this desktop, http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-Media-Center-TV-PC-M7490N-/sem/rpsm/oid/152673/catOid/-12962/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do or this one, http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/HP-Pavilion-Media-Center-PC-M7470N-/sem/rpsm/oid/147561/catOid/-12962/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do should be fine. And as far as graphics go, I reccomend the Geforce 7600GS or 7600GT from nVidia. Keep in mind that DirectX 10 hardware will be coming out in a few months so you don't want to spend that much on a graphics card now. The 7600GT can be had for about $150 after rebates and the 7600GS at $130 or less.

It is cheeper and more reliable to have a clone system built. Propriatary systems cause nothing but problems.
