Dear Triggerhappy,
Very Simple:
Imagine team A is attacking and Team B is defending.for sure there is a space between B defenders and their goalkeeper.OK?
now A players should pass the ball to one of their players to score a goal.If the player who is going to receive the ball and score it locate between the above mentioned space,Then he is in Offside.
Please check the link below on pages 60-66.
Some possible Offsides are describe by pictures:
http://www.fifa.com/documents/fifa/laws/LOTG2005_e.pdf
and also this link : http://www.burtrandworld.co.uk/offside-rule.php
Yellow card is a ultimatum somehow and the team must pay for each yellow card that they get.
Red card is for a rule breaking or a bad foul and the player will be sent off and the team must pay again but more than Yellow.
If a player receive his/her 2nd yellow card during a match the referee will show him/her a red card and send him/her off.

Offside means that the player is behind the last defender of the opponent team. Onside-doesn't exist such thing in soccer.
Red card is accorded when a player makes a violent fault, hit other player or makes something inappropriate on the field. When he receives the red card he must leave the field.
Yellow card is accorded when a player makes a fault, take off his shirt etc. But the player doesn't leave the field in this case. Two yellow cards are equivalent with one red card. So if a player get the second yellow card he is sent off.

Yellow card is a warning. Red card is an ejection. It's kind of discretionary based on the ref's interpretation of the foul. Two yellow cards = a red card.
Offsides is when an attacking player is ahead of the ball AND two players (goalie included) on the pitch. Hard to describe - see the link for a better explanation.

red card, the player gets sent off
yellow card, the player has fouled another
the off side rule....very complicated...a player is off side if defence is behnd the player when the ball is passed. so, eg, one player passes to another, the player he passes to must have a defender of opposite site ahead of him (so he has chance to defend). this only happens as the ball is passed, then anyone can move anywhere. its really hard to grasp

yellow is a warning for a foul, red gets you booted and you can not be replaced. Offsides means you are beyond where you are allowed to be for your position........
