Is your task-bar big enough? Take the pointer and move it over the task-bar. At one point it will change to a double-ended arrow. Click and drag upwards, the task-bar should double.

Are you opening multiple windows in one program? If so, sometimes you can have too many for the task-bar and so Microsoft will put them all in a single box. Click on the rectangle and it will act as a pop-up menu with all the open windows in it. Click on the one you want.

Still not working? Here's what I do. I hold down the Alt key and hit F4. This is the old Windows way of closing a program. A pop-up should appear on-screen asking if you want to save the changes. Click yes or no. Your program has been closed. Go back and reopen it and it should be there.

Only once have I ever had to reboot the computer.

Good Luck HTH (Hope This Helps) Jessica and Tita both have excellent suggestions.

Some programs have an option called "hide when minimized" this option is very useful 'cause you can hide this program in the area next to the clock and see the icon of the program... Ares and Outlook have this option. If you want to open just look for the program's icon in the notification area (next to the clock) and do a doble click. You can disable this option if you want just do a right click in the icon and uncheck "Hide when minimized".

Try pressing ALT TAB. It switches the focus to a different window.
