Not morons... but they spout off uninformed opinions without researching the information. Also they've made a horrible career move.
I pay for CDs because I want to hear musicians play their music. I pay for DVDs and movie tickets because I want to see actors pretend to be characters and act out stories. To me this is the same as paying the guy at Jiffy Lube to change my oil. I want him to change my oil. That's all I want him to do. I don't want to know what he thinks of the president or the war in Iraq. I don't care. I don't want to know who he's dating. I don't care about that either. If he tried to tell either of those things, it would irritate me. It also irritates me when celebrities do this.
Dixie Chicks, just sing your songs about killing abusive husbands, and cowboys taking you away. I don't care what you think. I DON'T CARE. Just play music.

Musical genres are stretched all the time, including in Country. Remember the slick, pop-friendly Country music of a few years ago, e.g. Faith Hill or Shania Twain? It was a minor controversy at the time, then faded away. IGNORING the political aspect, this is the same thing, as the album does have a less country feel.
Regarding the political aspect though, musicians have been voicing "controversial" views for centuries. With multiple polls showing Pres. Bush's ratings waaaaay down, it seems to be that Dixie Chicks were right on target.
It's a shame to say that yet another attack on people expressing their, now widely shared, viewpoint is being launched from what appears to be the Right.
Oh, alternate meanings for "moron": 1)Someone who refuses to see the truth about a misguided administration. 2)Someone who attacks another's patriotism when the two disagree on policy.

What kind of idiot thinks that singing has anything to do with your political ideals!
By your statement all country music singers must be idiots, because only idiots would support Bush (what with him being one). There may be a predominance of top rank country artists who are Republican, but country is not the sole domain of Republicans, the singers are all individuals, and probably have many political views. and even Republicans should and are speaking out against a Republican regime led by and incompetent fool.
The Dixie Chicks sing good songs (some of the time) which is why people like them, if you don't like their songs then that's a good reason for airing your thoughts on them leaving the music industry, saying they should quit music because of their political opinions is the ravings of an imbecile.
And yes I know I won't get the 10 points because I called you an idiot, but hey the shoe fits and telling you how stupid you are was worth it.
Maybe one day you will learn something and grow up a little and maybe then you will have opinions that are intelligent.... Maybe.... But it's a long shot.
I hope burt1234 gets the 10 points because he was the least inflamatory or porkchopsjar because she was so right, but with a questioner like you that is unlikely, but if it goes to the vote one of those will get my vote and my families :)

I think some of you people are f---ed!!! You really ought to just sit back and listen to yourselves talk; you're bigger morons than the Dixie Chicks! So what if they're bashing Bush? And make a record about it? There's a term for this, which I think most dumbed down Americans have forgotten about: FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. If the Dixie Chicks want to write and release Bush bashing songs and bash him on stage, that's their perogative! If you don't like it, agree or approve of it then DON'T BUY THE F---ING ALBUMS OR GO TO THE CONCERTS! At least they still feel free enough to speak their minds, unlike 99.8% of the population who may or may not agree with them but are too afraid that Homeland Security is going to come knocking at their doors if they actually spoke out. Take a pill, people.
Why is it, that rappers can make political statements about their social repression and get away with it but anybody else can't? Explain it to me. And probably the biggest moron of all is the guy who asked this question in the first place! Speaking out against a Republican government...hello! In case you forgot or didn't know, Willie Nelson, one of the greatest country artists of all time is also one of the biggest political/environmental activists in music!!
Christ...I don't know who is worse at the end of the day: the left wing nuts or the right wing nuts. I'm leaning towards the right wing nuts. So the Dixie Chicks are bashing Bush. Truth hurts, does it?
