Babe Ruth openly acknowledged using illegal substances. Alcohol was illegal at the time and he openly flaunted his drinking. Ruth in his day was the same as Steve Howe except baseball looked the other way.
Many people in the 20's went to jail for what Ruth did, but since he was "the Babe" he got away with it.
