Would you consider staying at a Youth Hostel? There's one right in the Gaslamp Quarter, and one at Pt. Loma. Its really cheap (less than $20/night if you bunk in the dorm) and about $60-75/night for a private room. The Gaslamp Quarter has lots of restaurants and clubs....there's also a supermarket and other places to get inexpensive food within walking distance.

That depends on where you want to be, downtown, Old Town, Hillcrest, near Seaworld, beach communities or north county. North county is freeway close to downtown and the attractions. You will find rates at hotels cheaper than downtown, too. If I knew more I could give a better recommendation.

Im going for 4 days, taking my boyfriend for his bday. I went to expedia.com and found a list of hotels to choose from. I got a pretty nice one, not too expensive.
