i have pierced ears...3 in my left and 4 in my right...and 3 tattoos.
i have a high tolerance for pain....so...
i feel that the piercing hurts more than tattoos...plus piercings are less permanent and take longer to heal completely....and there's more upkeep with them.
tattoos are completely healed in a matter of a couple of weeks and you just have to keep your skin in good shape, which you should do anyway.

I think the belly button ring is worse. Not sure why, just do. I myself have a tattoo. I was so scared when I went to get it. It wasn't too bad at all. I got it on my lower back. Not all tattoos look fugly when you get older. If you age well, there should be no problem with people being able to tell what your tattoo is. It's done with a small needle that pierces the skin, in and out, in and out. Really quickly though. Once again, I was scared to death but I made it through. The artist gave me the opportunity to take a break mid way through, my outlook, don't stop now. Finish the damn thing. I won't, however, get another one. Too many tattoos is what looks ridiculous.

Tattoo.
You are pretty much stuck with a tattoo but a belly button piercing you don't always have to have an earing or ring like thing in the piercing.

This is what I have to say about tattoos. Honey, you can get Hepatitis C from it. It is the most rampant cause of cirrhosis of the liver. There is a treatment for Hepatitis C, but only 50% of those infected will respond to given treatment; the rest get liver disease and die. I also just got my blood drawn yesterday to see if I have Hepatitis C. You see we just found out 4 days ago that my husband has it and that I could also have it because I have slept with him. It's no small matter. I'm sitting here scared wondering what the results will be. I hope my test results come back negative. Please pray for me. I also hope for your sake that you choose not to get the tattoo; it's just not worth it. :(
Additional Note: A lot of people say it's fine if you get it done at a sanitary professional place. What they don't tell you is it doesn't matter how sanitary it is because part of the ink that is used goes back into the ink vials. To show you what I mean...imagine drinking out of a straw. Part of the liquid in the straw goes back into the glass when you are finished. It may be a very small amount; however, it is the same concept with the clean needles and ink vials when people get tattoos. Once you get Hepatitis C you have to get interferon shots 3 times a week for 6-18 months and there is no guarantee that it will work or that you won't relapse. I sure hope my test comes back negative. I will just hate it if it doesn't, and it's so sad that my husband has this. We have an appointment set up with his doctor in a couple weeks to go over his treatment plan. I think people that get tattoos are crazy!!!!

I'd put the clover on my hip or ankle (to each their own). For a small tattoo...it shouldn't hurt too much. It's the ones that take a long time that really test your pain threshold. Belly button piercings are okay, but they are the piercings that tend to get infected the most. If it gets infected it really hurts, otherwise the piercing is no worse than your ears.

Of course, what you do is up to you, but you asked what each feels like, so I'll share my opinion.
I have two piercings in my navel and it's a very quick process. The piercer will hold the skin in place, then put the needle through. As she pulls the needle out, the jewlery goes in. Then you are done. You'll need to clean it for a couple weeks while it heals. Helaing time depends on your body plus how you care for it.
I also have a tattoo and it does involve more pain, but nothing that isn't bearable. The needle gun is equal to a cat scratch over and over. After awhile, your skin gets numb to it, but it heats up and will feel like it's hot. (think warm rays of sunshine! LOL) The worst part of the tat is the irritation from the artist rubbing the excess ink off your skin.
One last bit of advise. Whether you pierce, tat, or both, go to some place you trust. Get to know the people there, before you have work done. The artist working on you will be more relaxed, so will you and you will enjoy the process so much more. It also never hurts to bring a friend along to distract you! Enjoy!

A tattoo definitely because a belly button piercing hurts as bad as getting your ears pierced and will only last a couple seconds/minutes, but a tattoo will be hours of pain.

neither is worse it is all personal choice. I got my tattoo15 years ago and i still love it I am going to get another one in a few weeks. I also have traegus pierced I have had many other piercings over the years but always end up taking them out because my body rejects them. Which hurts more? The piercing hurts after longer especially if you get an infection and the tattoo kills when you get it done but then it just feels like sunburn for a day or two. Its your skin and your choice, I made mine and I'm happy with it.

I have a tattoo and a few piercings. The belly button one did not actually hurt too much. If you get a tattoo close to the bone it will hurt more, or at least that is what I have heard. Mine was on my back shoulder and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. As far as what's better? Well, a tattoo is pretty much...permanent. It will depend on your pain tolerance but really, it wasn't all that painful.

I think a tattoo. You can take out a belly button piercing and know one would ever know you had one, but tattoos are forever.
By the way, I don't have either.

A tattoo is permanent, a belly ring isnt. Getting your belly button pierce does not hurt. Most people pysch themselves out so much but it hardly hurts. It feels like a pinch and pressure. After its done, you cant even tell that you got it done. Obviously the whole healing process can hurt especially if it gets infected or gets pulled on. You have to be super careful with a belly ring so it doesnt get infected. It all depends on whether you want something thats permenant or not.
