I wondered the same thing because I don't have a basement, and there's no way I"m getting in the crawlspace. I'll face a tornado over all those spiders.
Get in your bathtub. If you can grab a mattress to put over you, that would be great. If not, grab a bunch of blankets and pillows and pull them over yourself. A central closet works, but the bathtub is better. Think how many pictures of tornado damage you see that the only thing sitting there in one piece is the bathtub!

If you do not have a basement, consider an interior hallway or room on the lowest floor. Putting as many walls as you can between you and the outside will provide additional protection. Less than 2 percent of all tornadoes are powerful enough to completely destroy a sturdy building. Make sure there are no windows or glass doors in your safe place and keep this place uncluttered.

I live in West Tennessee so I've been scared several times this year. I go in my bedroom and pray. There's really no place to go unless a tornado is sited. Then all my neighbors go to the church basement down the road.....)(

Bend over and kiss your butt goodbye! JK I've been through many close encounters with tornados and if u have a closet or pantry under the stairs, go there. Or the bathtub. OR the lowest place u can find! NEVER go upstairs!!

go to a sturdy interior room if you can - no windows (or few windows). Cover up with a sleeping bag, or mattress or something in the bathtub. Go to a neighbors with a basement.

Go to an interior room in your house with no windows and cover yourself with a mattress. Or if you are caught outside, lay flat in a ditch and cover your head.
