if it's a party, do you really want people to sit around and watch TV? Or do you want them to interact?
You can have some music, have some dancing involved, some eating and since this is a 12-14 yr old party, maybe some social games (and I am NOT suggesting musical chairs)
Also ask some of your close friends to help you out with the party. It will help set up the mood you want.

well for one thats the age hormones start kicking in so first I say have plenty of chapperones, then fun stuff, not just sitting around, volleyball in back yard, cookout, if its not nice out, have video games handy, some tv is cool but you all can take a road trip to check out some movies to rent, go get ice cream, go to a park or a beach with some frizbees...cmon, get your creativity going

No, searve a lot of food, hire a DJ, make a buffet, have your dad be a punch man, then make sure your parents are upstairs or in another room, put a lot of decorations, and just have fun!
