So I want to give him a small house warming gift, not to give him a gift but really more of a gesture "congrats on moving into your new place" thats not threatening (since we just started seeing eachother) and *fun*
He's 26.

A little silk nightie. That'll warm the house up. ;-)

Well I'm not a man but I hope I can help. If you're looking for something small I would try a cool DVD or CD or 2. I would stay away from decorative items because men aren't really that into those things and then he would think you are trying to decorate his place to your taste. Go for something more useful. If he has a grill (and enjoys grilling) maybe you could by him a grill set. Stick with something he can get some use out of. Maybe if there is a toaster or other small appliance he doesn't have you could give him that and say "I noticed you didnt have (name of gift) so I figured you would probably need one." Maybe you could even get him a case of beer or bottle of wine (whichever is his preference). A bottle of wine I think is a pretty common housewarming present but might be too personal in your situation.

If he is a handy man then some tools of some kind. Things for the kitchen or some sort of wall decoration. How about a simple flower arrangement might work as well.

Maybe a Dish Network Sattellite system with PVR that you can record your favorite shows & sports events. Throw in a home entertainment system since it also has a whole bunch of commercial free music channels too!

You can NEVER go wrong with a bad-*** tool box complete with some great tools in case he needs to build or fix something in the house. Nothing expresses love more than saying:

"Hey sweety! Let's go to Home Depot!"

YOU NEED TO FIRST FIND OUT WHAT HE LIKES AND DISLIKES.IF HE'S A MAN WITH A LOT OF MONEY AND CAN PRETTY MUCH PURCHASE WHAT HE WANTS A THE DROP OF A HAT THEN BUY SOMETHING MORE PERSONAL.(I.E. A PLANT WITH A PERSONAL NOTE ATTACHED OR SOMETHING HE COLLECTS) IF HE IS JUST MOVING OUT ON HIS OWN AND NEEDS THINGS FOR THE HOUSE, PURCHASE SOMETHING OF SMALL VALUE SO THAT HE DOESN'T GET OFFENDED.

6 pack!
You can NEVER go wrong with stocking up a guy's new pad with a little hooch! Good luck. Oh, and a good make out session to break the place in rocks!

What about a nice set of wine or champagne glasses? Guys typically always have a shortage of glasses anyway and this might also sort of send a subliminal message to have you for dinner and wine one evening.

Buy him a nice scented candle with a masculine looking candle holder. I got my uncle a really cool looking one made out of leather with a cilantro lime scented candle from Pier 1 imports. He really liked it and it looks super cool in his bachelor pad. Plus when its time for the two of you to get romantic he can light it to create a nice mood.

Good luck!

Get him what guys don't get for themselves - a beautiful party bag filled with staples: Windex, paper towels, Laundry soap, dishwasher liquid, toilet paper, air freshner, a squeegee for the shower, ....stuff like that. Fun and helpful --- and without any loaded messages!

Check out either Pier 1 or Kirklands if they have one around you...they have great artsy type stuff that's masculine. You can find some great wall art, or just storage type stuff that's really neat.

Good Luck...
