EVERY other minority group that came here has learned English - I did not say EVERY person but as a whole they did. If you are inferring that it is more difficult for Mexicans - why? Are they dumber? AN din California & many other states they are provided with FREE English classes...which these ingrates don't take. Do you think your grandparent got this?

But Mexicans want the second, third, etc generations to still speak Spanish. Get it?

To babyitsyou31: Listen sweetie, how do you think all these other people that came here learned English? And two, historicaly, immigrants have always initially clustered BUT historically they have learned the language. Wake up sugar, you got a 6th grade education to complete!

To Babytits-you31: That's the whole point - MORON. They don't want ot learn English EVER! And furthermore, learning English does not mean they lose their culture - look at all the other immigrants that have come here to America, they still enjoy thier culture aong with other American cultures.

YOU ARE SO CORRECT!!!!
There is NOT another "group" who does NOT learn the English Language!!!
Spanish-Speaking Mexicans are the ONE AND ONLY GROUP that I can think of!!!
MOST other groups, Asian, Korean, Laotian, etc LEARN the ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!!!
There are FREE English education courses that they can take. All they have to do is ASK/LOOK/CALL for locations!!!
ESL - ENGLISH as a SECOND LANGUAGE is taught in EVERY PUBLIC SCHOOL IN THE USA!!!! Waste of hard earned tax payers money!!!
The USA caters to the MEXICAN/SPANISH SPEAKING people. Something that needs to be IMMEDIATELY STOPPED!!!!
IF YOU CANNOT: READ, WRITE AND SPEAK THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, THEN GO BACK TO YOUR HOME COUNTRY!!!!

Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Russian, Czech, Thai ... the list goes on and on. What's more, is that many of the Asian immigants go to Canada first and cross illegally over the northern border.
I wish people would lay off the Mexicans already. Even if they are part of the problem ( and I am not sure they are ), there are other groups as well. Only, the media has not yet chosen to make them a centerpiece.
Look carefully and you will find that there are many, many boats stopped offshore full of illegal Chinese immigrants.
In fact, do a Google or Yahoo search.

It's pretty overwhelming to be in a new country and new culture. I think learning the language as well as the social aspects takes time. Besides, it's not like the early colonial immigrants came here and tried to learn the Native American languages.

In the relatively recent past, the Cubans and Puerto Ricans--but their children learned English in school. The Russians and Polish who came recently seemed to already know English.
In the distant past, Germans, Poles, Scandanavian, French, Italians, Greeks...all Europeans who came here through Ellis Island--again, their children learned the language in school.
