It is quite common for one breast to be bigger than the other during development and for some reason it is usually the left one that grows largest. The breasts tend to even out in size and become less noticeable as development continues throughout puberty, although many women are aware that their breasts are slightly different sizes. If you are very asymmetrical by the end of puberty, and it is causing psychological problems, you may be able to have an operation to correct this on the NHS, although waiting lists can be long. If the breast is lumpy however, it is important to seek medical advice. Don't be embarrassed - your GP is used to dealing with worries like this. If you would feel more comfortable, ask to see a female doctor - or ask to see the practice nurse first, who can gently examine you and put you at your ease. The nurse can then call a doctor in to assess you if she feels this is necessary.
