Case in point, if you get too many parking citations, it is legal for the municipal government to impound your car until you either pay off what they say you owe, or sell it at auction for money. Yet, if you attempt to do the same thing with their property, you're going to jail.

There's also the issue of taxes, where if you don't pay, the feds can sieze all your assets. However, if you attempt to steal from the feds, you're going to jail.

Any explanation for this?

I love the issue of taxation. Remember, back a few hundred years ago, there was a little skirmish called "The Boston Tea Party". Anyone remember what it was about?
Taxes. That is one of the major events from which this country was born. Patriots fighting against "taxation without representation".

In 1913, Congress amended the Constitution to allow for "federal income taxes" to pay for the growing war debt.
(Amendment XVI)

I don't like paying taxes. I don't know anyone who celebrates on April 15th (except maybe tax preparers). I believe income taxes are basically theft by coercion, but they're a Constitutional responsibility and I pay them.

On the parking citations, you do realize that, by not paying them, you are essentially "stealing" from the city or town, right. This is money that is owed to them, and defaulting on debt is theft. I don't understand what you mean by "attempting to do the same thing with their property", though. If the city owes you money that is a direct result of the property you are taking, I would expect that there would be ACLU lawyers lined up at your door begging to take the case.

I did my best not to be "retarded" although I did mention the ACLU. My bad...

Often wondered why it was justified to seize all assets of a drug dealer but allow a paroled murderer to go home and enjoy the interest collected from a bank account.

The simple reason is authority and power. The government has the authority to do such things (unless challenged in court and found to be in excess of reasonable power). Further, the government has the power (the ability) to take what it believes belongs to it.

Fortunately we have the courts. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps prevent a fascist state from developing.

Moral of the story, pay your damn debts you deadbeat.... They have a right to collect the money owed to them.

You live here. If you call the police, they show up at your house. If your house is on fire, people show up to put it out. There are people building streets so you can get to work, stoplights so you don't get killed at an intersection. You owe TAXES for that ****. Get over it.

You decide youre too damn lazy to park at the designated parking space. You block in pedestrians, disrupt the flow of traffic or block off fire hydrants? You owe FINES for that stupidity. Get over it.

It is much the same thing if you borrow money to buy the car and don't make the payments. The bank can reposes your car. Does not make it theft. The law permits seizures of property to settle government debts in certain situations.

The government is granted those rights by the electorate. The People have a great deal of political power but refuses to wield it. Blame the People, not the government.

Remember it is not to prove something is legal, all things are legal unless there is a specific law against it.
