It's like, first of all you hear alot of Latinos trying to share credit for rap and hip hop by saying they helped create it too. And now that that claim doesn't seem to work, they go ahead and create reggaeton which is simply rap, hip-hop and reggae infused with a little bit of Latin flair. Don't get me wrong, Latinos are extraordinarily creative -- having created an entire industry of salsa, merengue and other musical styles enjoyed in South America, Central America and the Caribbean. But now that everything black is considered cool by mainstream society, they seem to want a piece of the pie. But where were all the Latino rappers that supposedly help create rap and hip hop? Where were they before Fat Joe came along? Heck, there were even white rappers like The Beastie Boys, 3rd Bass, Everlast and (don't laugh) Vanilla Ice back in the day.

By saying "everything black is cool" I'm talking about the fact that Mtv plays like 95% rap and hip hop as well as shows like "Yo Momma" and megastars like Beyonce and Will Smith being considered sex symbols across the board. Seriously, the hip hopper is the modern day rock star and there's really no competition.

Pancha, Nirvana was like 1991 and grunge has been gone since 1995. You seem to be stuck in a time warp but hey, to each his own.

'Beautiful' DID NOT READ THE QUESTION AND EXPLANATION!!!!!!!!! (Guess who WON'T be getting 5 'best answer' points). You completely skipped around my point ... probably because you saw the thread title and bypassed the rest. No one is saying that musicians of a particular ethnicity should stay in a box, but what I am saying is that that some Latinos are jumping onto the bandwagon because hip hop is cool. And then you come along trying to drag your red herring all over my thread. If hip hop was jointly created by Latinos, where were all the Latino rappers back when Run DMC, LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys and Kool Moe Dee were out? Now that rap and hip hop are king, everybody wants to lay claim to creating it. Blacks aren't trying to say they "invented" salsa now are they? Imitation is one thing, but STEALING WITHOUT GIVING CREDIT is the most unoriginal thing one can do.
