You need to leave the leaves alone after flowering so they can make enough food to keep the rhizomes healthy for next year's flowering. When they start to look ratty, you can cut the down shorter, to about 8 inches or so. If you cut the leave in a wedge shape (not each leaf, but the plant as a whole) about 4 inches at the outside and 8 inches in the center they look better and you have left enough leaf for food production.

Just cut off the flowers and leave the foliage which will help feed the plant for next year. If you cut off all the foliage all the plants energy will go to forming new foliage instead of setting blooms.

if your iris are planted properly, part of the tuber will be above ground and mowing over is would certainly not be recommended. i asked a professional iris person at an iris show why they changed colors, and she abruptly told me they do not. maybe hers don't, but mine do!

Let all green parts die before mowing, otherwise blooms will not be as profuse the next year, possible nonexistent
