Definitely go see a play or opera in the Sydney Opera House. Tickets are not that expensive and you can get them the day of the performance.
The Harbor Bridge Walk is okay - a little expensive but you get a great view of the city.
Darling Harbor is very nice and busy. You can take a speed, jet boat ride on the harbor.
Some area - I think called The Rocks - is fun. Very old, rustic. They have a market there on the weekends with lots of cool goods.
The Blue Mountains are an hour or so outside of Sydney and have a famous rock structure called the Three Sisters. People that like nature/rocks go there.

You must go to Bondi and Manly Beach has well as the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Also be sure to check out Hyde Park and the old rock prison from when Australia was a penal colony.

- take the tourist bus Bondi Explorer that will take you from the Sydney downtown to the South Head , Bondi beach, stopping numerous times in between. A marvelous way to spend the day.
- take a day trip to the Blue Mountains, amazing

Go north to the Great Barrier Reef...it's mid winter there in Sidney and cold...not as cold as most of us get in the United States but there won't be the usual tourist stuff open...Ayers Rock is great to see too...I was there in 2000 and it's TERRIFIC...go to a pub in an area off the beaten track and you'll meet the most wonderful locals...
