I am receiving e-mails stating that my emails to people at aol.com were not delivered due to errors in the name. I did not send the e-mails and no e-mail to these people are in my out box. What should I do??

It's quite unlikely that you're account has been attacked (change your password to something longer and more secure if your feeling a bit paranoid).

The most likely thing that has happened is that someone has sent spam with your email address listed as the return address. It happened to me once - 10,000 bounces in 14 hours, not pleasant.

The trick is, it's likely to be an incompetant spammer which is good as it gives you a shot at getting the email stopped. If you post the headers as a question you're likely to find people on here who can help you track them down.

The one I had was an affiliate of a reasonably legit looking site, so I emailed the site with their affiliate ID and asked them to stop. The response was faster than I expected.

Of course, if you can live with the volume it should be fairly easy to filter the messages (or auto-delete them).

The next time you get emails like this, look at the size before opening it. I once got tons of emails that looked like they came from all sorts of places. (And all of them were from places I had never visited). They had titles like "please verify your password" or "your password has been changed". And each of them was 73kb in length. Obviously, it was someone or something trying to spread a virus (it doesn't take that much space to write a short message).

You're probably getting spam. (Or someone else is using your account as suggested by another person here). It's best to delete them. And to be safe, you should do a virus & spyware scan on your computer.

your account has been hacked..... or you have trozans on your pc..
change your password... this sometimes works...

as a precaution.. dont open any attachments with .exe and .hqx extensions.. they will launch malware which uses your email id to spam the mail ids in your address book.

This happened to me once. I suspect its spam. Just delete the messages, don't bother.

someone may have gotten your password and logged on from another computer. Better take action now to be safe. Contact whoever you have.
