He's never going to get any better. He sucked at LSU, He sucked at Orlando, He SUCKED at the Lakers and now he sucks in Miami....It's pathetic. There have been plenty of 7' who've been able to shoot ovet 70% fouls. The problem is he has no touch from the line and now it's a mental block for him.

to all these shaq haters, how many rings does shaq have with his HORRRIBBBLLLEE FT shooting? what's the percentage of people who shoot 80% FT that have championship rings? reggie miller roughly 90% FT shooter...how many rings? that's what i thought.
to answer you question, he has tried. you have no idea how hard it is to shoot a basketball when you're so big. there are only a handful of 7footers than can shoot....yao, ilgauskas, etc...but then again they are also more likely to play outside and shoot jumpshots. shaq just gets all the attention because he attempts so many. just watch...shaq does have horrible form, but he doesn't always go 1 for 9. it's an anomaly...you can expect him to make somewhere from 4-5 if he shot 9 free throws again.
I'd be scared if i were the mavs...shaq 1-9 free throws and w/o terry who could not miss...heat were still in it to the end. heat take game 2!

I do not think so. Shaq has more publicity than anything else. The spotlight should be on D. Wade, He has the recognition of the real valuable player. Unfortunately, the TV promo of Shaq does not equate his ability on the court to score, his FT forces me to keep my fingers crossed.

It is hard for a guy who is 7'1, 325 lbs. Even though he was 1-9 from the foul line last night against the Mavericks, he may improve overtime; though few centers have ever been known for their accurate free throw shooting.

I agree and I'm surprised that many of the NBA players suck at FT's. You'd think that would be easy for them. Kind of lazy, if you ask me.

If he wasn't 7'4 and 320 pounds,he'd be looking for work.He has no touch or finesse. He bulls his way inside and dunks or puts up a 2-3 footer and rolls it in.Bull in a china shop.
