I have a pair of black pants that are "dry clean only." They are 54% linen, 44% rayon, and 2% spandex.

Should I take a chance and wash them on cold, delicate?

i prolly would, and use woolite, and lay them flat on a towel on the bed to dry. but, it depends on how much i paid for them...over $50, it's worth it to dry clean them.
also, are you a good ironer? that may be important. (i love to iron)

Rayon is what is going to get you into trouble with those pants. Most things that say dry clean only are o.k. to wash, but things with wool or rayon generally end up much smaller than you want them to be, even if you don't put them in the dryer.

if you can afford to dry clean after every use, when necessary, sure, or, as mentioned, try the woolite/dry ell methods; I washed a pair of express dress pants and put them in the dryer, I can stil wear them, but, they have these wrinkles in them that look like they were made that way! even though I got them for a couple bucks @ a community yard sale last year, they are in perfect shape, cept for the wrinkles, an they didnt have a washing label, so I winged it, bottom line, if you do-it-yourself, be prepared for the results either way! not everything should be taken into our own hands, ya dig!

I had several outfits that said "dry clean only" and always machine washed on gentle and air dry (no heat). Never had a problem. I bought a new dress, also dry clean only, did the same thing and it shrank about 4 sizes. Never got to wear that dress again.. I would suggest to pay the extra and get it dry cleaned. It's cheaper in the long run.

The 44% rayon would worry me. I have hand washed a rayon blouse in the sink in cold water. I could feel the shirt shrinking in my hands as soon as it got wet.

try that product "dryell" its very cool and works very well, you can get it almost anywhere that sells laundry stuff. Walmart has the best price. Good luck and use the money you saved to have fun:)
