I don't know about not being useful, but in the old days they had something called 'suttee', in which the widow was often burned along with the deceased on his funeral pyre. But only the most depraved of chauvinists could try to claim it was because she was no longer of any use to him.

It still happens in India though it is illegal. It is the custom of many sects there and many authorities will not pursue a man who burns his wife to death. As I said, it happens today, and it happens frequently.

I am not quite sure, but I have complete disrespect to countries that still mistreat humans by killing them for nothing or for their beliefs and way of life....sometimes I feel good seeing americans killing them, although I know it is unethical.
