I'm so glad you asked a question about Captain Kangaroo! I've been thinking about him recently and how much I loved his show when I was a little person! Captain Kangaroo was my early-morning companion for many years.
I'm sorry I don't remember ever seeing the Banana Man, but that doesn't mean he didn't exist. I do remember how much I loved "Bunny Rabbit" and Mr. Green Jeans. I could never forget the wonderful Treasure House, Grandfather Clock, Dancing Bear, or Mr. Moose and all those ping-pong balls!
I also liked the segments where the Captain would do crafts - usually making something out of crayons and construction paper. What about the Captain's great big pockets and the surprises he could pull out of them?! I'd love it when Bunny Rabbit would somehow connive the Captain into giving him a bunch of carrots.

Wow, I used to watch that show every day when I was a little kid. I remember Mr. Greenjeans, Mr Moose, BunnyRabbit, Grandfather Clock and some others... but no Banana man. Maybe I blocked him out of my mind.
